El embarazo no debería afectar tu salud dental, pero debes tener cuidado de que las caries mal cuidadas no se te infecten.
Algunos estudios demuestran que las mujeres que sufren de inflamación e infección de las encías tienen un mayor riesgo de dar a luz a bebés prematuros o pequeños. Por lo tanto es necesario dar prioridad a tu salud e higiene dental durante esta etapa.
El embarazo produce un aumento de la circulación sanguínea en las embarazadas, aproximadamente la mitad de las mujeres embarazadas sufren de una enfermedad llamada gingivitis gravídica que consiste en el enrojecimiento de las encías. Las encías suelen a sangrar con facilidad cuando padeces de esta enfermedad, así que intenta cepillar los dientes y usar el hilo dental con suavidad.
Si durante esta etapa deseas que tus dientes parezcan más blancos y brillantes, existen numerosos productos a tu disposición: bandas, geles y sistemas blanqueadores que puedes utilizar durante el embarazo sin problema ya que no existe ningún motivo para pensar que pueden suponer un problema.
Si tienes que ir al dentista para hacerte un tratamiento mientras estas embarazada (empastes, extracciones o colocación de coronas) no debes preocuparte, la anestesia local y casi todos los analgésicos son seguros.
Algunos dentistas utilizan antibióticos durante los tratamientos, estos por lo general son seguros durante el embarazo, pero conviene que lo verifiques con tu médico.
